Cassidy was born and raised in Alabama, where she developed her love for books from her Mom, video games from her Dad, and found her way into the world of crochet at the age of 7. Rather than get a traditional education right out of high school, she worked for the family business as an insurance agent, getting her her P&C and her Life, Accident and Health licenses. Now that they’ve relocated to Minnesota she is currently working part time, and spends much of her free time balanceing her hobbies with finishing her BA in English literature. She is extremely thankful to Vaughn and his family for all the help with adjusting to life in the Twin Cities and her family for supporting her on her life’s journey!

Vaughn was raised in Woodbury Minnesota. He grew up loving video games, fantasy, and science fiction and took that into his studies as he attended the University of Minnesota for Aerospace Engineering. A lifelong learner, Vaughn decided to attend graduate school at the University of Alabama, impeccably timed right before the world shut down due to a global pandemic. After that resolved, and as his school was nearing its end, he met Cassidy and it was love at first sight. Vaughn spends most of his free time playing card games, board games, and video games, and also loves hiking, canoeing, and fishing in the boundary waters.

A Love Journey Unfolds

June 2022
How we met
Our story begins as do many today do: on the Internet. We open on the dating app “Hinge” in June of 2022, where Cassidy and Vaughn were going through their matches at the suggestion of their best friends (thanks, Marc and Laurel!) After matching and messaging for a week, a first date was scheduled at Taco Mama in Hoover, Alabama. The couple connected immediately, bonding quickly over a variety of nerdy topics, and scheduled a second date for the next week shortly after the first date ended.

Started Dating
The second date was to Dave & Busters, but most of the time was spent talking about the couple’s plans for the future, and where they wanted this to go. After dancing around the question for a moment, Cas asked Vaughn “Do you want to date?” and Vaughn enthusiastically agreed. Unfortunately Vaughn got sick shortly after, but there were many virtual dates in video games, a trend that continues to this day.
April 2023
Moving in
April of 2023 held many changes: Vaughn was being called away for the summer to work for NASA, and after much discussion, Cassidy agreed to take over the rest of Vaughn’s lease while he was gone to care for his two cats, Callie and Bailey. At this point they had been talking about moving in together for a couple of months before moving the relationship forward. Cassidy helped get everything arranged in Tuscaloosa while Vaughn was gone, and left the family business to work for Tuscaloosa’s tag office. When Vaughn returned at the end of July, they moved into their first apartment together.
August 2023
The Proposal
After living together for about four months, Vaughn and Cassidy agreed that the move felt natural, and began to discuss getting married. Of course, they needed to get engaged first, and after letting their immediate families know that they planned to propose to each other, the couple set out to find engagement rings. The rings arrived by the end of December, and on New Years Eve of 2023, they went to their favorite breakfast spot, took a walk on a path that had housed many a conversation, and Vaughn proposed, with Cassidy counter-proposing right after.

The Big Move
Around November of 2024 Vaughn had begun to look for more long-term employment as he approached the end of his dissertation. Honeywell Aerospace in Plymouth, MN responded, asking Vaughn to remote in for a virtual interview. The interview went so well, that they asked him to do a second interview a week later. December 3rd, 2024, Vaughn got a call asking how soon he could start with Honeywell. Their lease for the Tuscaloosa apartment ended in February, so Vaughn and Cassidy began the process of planning the cross-country move. Vaughn’s parents graciously scoped out apartments for the couple, and Vaughn’s dad took time off to drive the couple’s u-haul of possessions from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Edina, Minnesota.

The Big Day
And so now they are located in Minnesota, with Vaughn working as a advanced R&D engineer for Honeywell Aerospace, and Cassidy working part time to focus on her own school and wedding planning.
